"Prospecting of bioactive molecules identified in marine organisms and of therapeutic interest".

Many marine organisms, in particular invertebrates and their associated microorganisms, represent an under-explored source of new natural products with various biological activities in situ (cytotoxic, antibiotic, antifungal, antifouling, etc.). These specialized metabolites frequently have original structures, different from those of the metabolites of species from the terrestrial environment, with a strong potential for valorization in various fields, in particular therapeutic.
In this context, the Medical Biology research axis of the LIA ROPSE concerns:

The extraction, isolation and structural determination of natural molecules with biological properties of interest from marine invertebrates.

The synthesis of small molecules selected for their structural singularities and their biological properties.
The evaluation of the biological properties of natural/synthetic molecules, in particular with respect to the main aging pathways, telomere functions, cell cycle regulation, cell senescence, apoptosis, oncogenic transformation and regeneration as well as to their antimicrobial activities.

This multidisciplinary axis is based on the expertise of 8 laboratories of excellence: the Scientific Center of Monaco (CSM), IRCAN, LP2M, TIRO-MATOs, IBV, ECOSEAS, ICN and C3M of the University of the Côte d'Azur.
